Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Can I apply with a collaborative project?
A: While you may apply with a collaborative project, one person must apply as the lead applicant. The fellowship is designed to support individual artists, and the grant, mentorship, and participation in program activities, such as workshops, will be awarded to and centered on the lead fellow.

Q: Do you support artist-run nonprofits or businesses?

A: The Creative Innovation Fellowship is specifically designed to support individual artists working on creative projects. It does not fund nonprofits and artist-run businesses.

Q: What does it mean to have a “proven track record” of completing creative projects?
A: It means you’ve actively developed and shared your work with the public through exhibitions, screenings, performances, publications, or similar formats. We’re looking for artists who are committed to their practice and have shown they can carry a project through to completion with clarity and intention.

Q: How do you define the use of technology and innovation in an eligible project?
A: Eligible projects need to integrate technology thoughtfully into their concept, process, or form. This might include, but is not limited to, the use of AI, immersive technologies, creative coding, digital manufacturing, AR/VR, robotics, and more. These are only examples, as we remain open to emerging tools and experimental approaches that push artistic boundaries.

Q: Do I need to complete my project by the end of the Fellowship year?
A: We encourage applicants to complete their projects within the Fellowship year. However, we understand that some larger projects may follow a multi-year timeline. In such cases, completion of the entire project is not required during the 10-month program, but applicants must clearly indicate which stage or milestone they expect to reach by the end of the Fellowship.

Q: If my application is not selected this year, can I apply again?
A: Yes, we encourage applicants to apply again with an improved application and/or a different project in the upcoming year. However, you cannot apply again if you have been selected for the program in the past.

Q: Do I have to be of Armenian origin to be eligible to apply for the Fellowship?

A: The Fellowship is open to all artists who are residents of the Republic of Armenia, regardless of nationality or background. Artists based abroad may also apply if their project is strongly connected to or will be implemented in Armenia.

Q: Will I receive feedback if I’m not selected?

A: All applicants will receive an email notification about the status of their application. However, due to the high volume of applications, we won’t be able to offer individual feedback. Applicants who reach the final evaluation round (video interviews) will receive a follow-up email explaining the final selection.

Q: Can I apply for the Creative Innovation Fellowship if I have participated in other programs by Creative Armenia (Artbox, East-West Residency, Creative Armenia-AGBU Fellowships, etc)?

A: Past participants of Creative Armenia programs are welcome and encouraged to apply for the Creative Innovation Fellowship.
